Softball Recap: Union County Picks Up Fifth Straight Win on the Road

Union County entered their tilt with Dixie County on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Bears 8-1. The game was the first time the Fightin' Tigers have beaten the Bears on their field since April 2, 2015.

The team relied heavily on Mackenzie Orton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Jailyn Simmons was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Orton wasn't the only one making solid contact: Union County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Union County pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Dixie County, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Union County will venture away from home to take on Bronson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Fightin' Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Dixie County, they are taking a road trip to face off against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
