Preview: Newcomb Skyhawks vs. Wingate Bears
The Newcomb Skyhawks are on the road again on Saturday and plays the Wingate Bears at 2:00 p.m. on February 10th. Hopefully Newcomb focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
Newcomb pushed their score all the way to 55, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Thoreau by a score of 57-55.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Darium Peshlakai, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adriano Washburn, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Wingate came into Tuesday's match having lost eight straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 49-43 victory over Crownpoint on Tuesday.
Newcomb's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Wingate, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-12.
Newcomb didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Wingate when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 49-43 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newcomb since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
