Recap: Pueblo South Colts vs. Pueblo Central Wildcats
The Pueblo South Colts fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Pueblo Central Wildcats on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Pueblo South was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Pueblo Central apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Pueblo South lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maurice Austin. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Austin is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Salazar, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Pueblo Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Davis, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. Davis is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Ladamien Davis was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Pueblo South's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Pueblo Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-6.
Pueblo South will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Pueblo East at 7:30 p.m. Pueblo East is coming into the game with three straight victories on the road, so Pueblo South is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. Pueblo Central is on the road again on Thursday and plays Pueblo West at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st. Pueblo West knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Pueblo Central likes a good challenge.
