Baseball Recap: Stanhope Elmore Takes a Loss

Stanhope Elmore was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Central Red Devils. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered since February 27th.

Luke Payne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Stanhope Elmore saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Hynes, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Hynes snagged this season. Another was Hayden Anderson, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Stanhope Elmore's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Central, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stanhope Elmore will host Opelika at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Central, they will face off against Vestavia Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
