Basketball Recap: Arvada West Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chatfield

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arvada West). They blew past the Chatfield Chargers 93-63 on Wednesday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Chargers are ranked 137th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Arvada West to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordan Stremel, who went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That's the most points Stremel has posted since back in February of 2024. Noah Meurer was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven assists and six steals.

Arvada West was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chatfield only racked up 11 assists.

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Taylor Stange, who posted 14 points. Stange continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kingston Bright, who had eight points.

Arvada West's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.6 points per game. As for Chatfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arvada West will square off against Ralston Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Ralston Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Chatfield, they will face off against Columbine at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chatfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
