The El Camino Colts will take on the Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with nine losses in a row dating back to last season, El Camino turned things around against Jefferson on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 16-0 shutout. The Colts' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Carlos Alcala made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Alcala was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while going 2-for-4. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nicholas Jang, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikealo Osorio, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
El Camino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory won against Redwood on Saturday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory came out on top against Tamalpais by a score of 6-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fightin' Irish.
Cooper Rogers-Lewis tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Vines, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. That hit was Vines' first of the season. Another was Chasin Deninger, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for El Camino, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
