Softball Game Preview: West Carroll War Eagles vs. Clarksburg Rockets

The West Carroll War Eagles will face off against the Clarksburg Rockets at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

West Carroll came into this matchup off a tough ten-run loss last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Madison by a score of 3-1 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the War Eagles have suffered since March 18, 2024.

Karma Wilkey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Wilkey wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gracelyn Vernon, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Clarksburg didn't have quite enough to beat Madison on Friday and fell 7-6. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Clarksburg now has a losing record of 6-7. As for West Carroll, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Clarksburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. West Carroll has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Clarksburg, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will West Carroll keep running through batters, or will the Rockets buck the trend?
