Basketball Recap: Balmorhea Piles Up the Points Against Big Bend

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Alpine, Balmorhea was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 63-26 win over the Big Bend Roadrunners. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 57-20 back in January.

Despite the loss, Big Bend still got an impressive performance from Brooke Jenks, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 boards. Jenks is becoming a predictor of Big Bend's success: when she posts at least ten rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 4-5 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Asa Reed, who posted six points and 11 boards.

Balmorhea's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Big Bend, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Balmorhea will head out to square off against Marfa at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. Marfa's defense has only allowed 21.6 points per game this season, so Balmorhea's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Big Bend, they will take on Valentine at 5:00 p.m. on February 4th. Big Bend is facing Valentine at the right time seeing as Valentine is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
