Softball Recap: Mt. Mansfield Takes a Loss

Mt. Mansfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 27th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against the St. Johnsbury Academy Hilltoppers, falling 9-0. The Cougars were not able to make up for their defeat to the Hilltoppers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Addie Gillilan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mt. Mansfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ellie Campbell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Mt. Mansfield's loss dropped their record down to 0-12. As for St. Johnsbury Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Mansfield will head out to take on South Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Johnsbury Academy, they will face off against Missisquoi Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
