Baseball Game Preview: Somerset Briar Jumpers vs. Casey County Rebels

Somerset is 9-1 against Casey County since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Briar Jumpers will challenge the Rebels at 6:00 p.m. Somerset will be strutting in after a victory while Casey County will be coming in after a loss.

Somerset took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Glasgow by a score of 8-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Briar Jumpers as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Connor Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on 11 hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Somerset let Kole Grundy and Caynan Sizemore run wild. Grundy went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Sizemore scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Grundy has become a key player for Somerset: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-9 otherwise. Bryson Stevens was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Somerset kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Casey County's offense. They lost 9-0 to Barbourville on Friday. The Rebels' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Somerset's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Casey County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Somerset took their win against Casey County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Briar Jumpers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
