Soccer Game Preview: Champaign Central vs. Springfield

Champaign Central is 0-6 against Springfield since April of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Maroons will challenge the Senators at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Springfield will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Champaign Central extended their winning streak to four on Thursday. The Maroons never let Bloomington get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. Given Champaign Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Bloomington are ranked 358th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Springfield hasn't lost a match since March 20th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Rochester as they made off with a 6-1 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Springfield hit Rochester with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Kamryn Hoffman (2), Addie Maddox (2), Madison Clark, and Bridget Lyons.

Springfield pushed their record up to 18-1-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 40 goals over those seven matchups. As for Champaign Central, their victory bumped their record up to 11-5.

Champaign Central suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Springfield in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Maroons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
