Soccer Game Preview: Stafford vs. Wharton

The Stafford Spartans will face off against the Wharton Tigers at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Stafford fell victim to Bridge City and their airtight defense on Saturday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. Alexander Espinoza was hit with a yellow card, which may have had some impact on his (and the team's) ability to make aggressive plays.

Meanwhile, Wharton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-pitch advantage in their season opener. They fell 2-0 to Sealy on Tuesday. The contest was a 0-0 toss-up at halftime, but Wharton couldn't quite close it out.

Stafford's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Wharton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Stafford was able to grind out a solid win over Wharton when the teams last played back in February of 2022, winning 4-2. Will Stafford repeat their success, or does Wharton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
