Basketball Game Preview: Marquette Defenders vs. Calamus-Wheatland Warriors

Marquette is 2-8 against Calamus-Wheatland since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Marquette Defenders will head out on the road to challenge the Calamus-Wheatland Warriors at 6:15 p.m.

Last Thursday, Marquette came up short against Edgewood-Colesburg and fell 64-51.

Meanwhile, Calamus-Wheatland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Irish, posting a 59-15 victory. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Calamus-Wheatland is also on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.6 points per game. As for Marquette, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Marquette strolled past Calamus-Wheatland in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 47-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Marquette since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
