Football Game Preview: McDowell Trojans vs. Austintown-Fitch Falcons

McDowell and Austintown-Fitch are an even 3-3 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Trojans will square off against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

McDowell took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Cathedral Prep with points to spare, taking the game 45-27. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Ramblers recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Brody Bonsell went supernova, rushing for 178 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Meanwhile, Austintown-Fitch earned a 14-7 victory over Perry on Friday.

McDowell's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Austintown-Fitch, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

McDowell came out on top in a nail-biter against Austintown-Fitch in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, sneaking past 38-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
