Westfield football team nationally ranked on TOC 2015-16.
On Friday, Feb. 26th the MaxPreps Travel Team made a visit to Chantilly in Northern Virginia to make a special presentation at
Westfield High School. After an incredible 2015 season, the Westfield Bulldogs received the Army National Guard national ranking trophy on the 11th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard, which is in its 11th year honoring football.
At the end of the fall season, the Westfield football team beat Oscar Smith of Chesapeake 49-42 to win the program’s first VHSL Group 4A state championship since 2007 and third overall. The Bulldogs finished their season at 14-1 and ranked No. 154 in the MaxPreps national rankings out of nearly 17,000 football teams nationwide.
MaxPreps and the Virginia Army National Guard arrived on campus Friday morning to display the impressive "Minuteman" trophy during the school’s lunch periods. Sergeant First Class John Lewis, along with several other members of the Virginia Army National Guard were on-site to congratulate the players and spread the excitement regarding the team’s national recognition.
At the winter sports pep rally the Student Government Association introduced each of the winter sports teams to huge rounds of applause. After a festive performance by the dance team, MaxPreps representative Danielle Ferrante was introduced to kick off the trophy presentation. She started with a brief explanation of the Tour of Champions and emphasized the necessary requirements to be eligible for this prestigious award.
Head coach Kyle Simmons and his football team was already on the gym floor in their commemorative Tour of Champions t-shirts as SFC Lewis presented them with the national ranking trophy and rafter banner. Everyone in attendance cheered loudly to show their appreciation and support.
After the trophy hand-off, the pep rally concluded with a student/faculty basketball game and a an exciting half-court shot competition. At the end of all the festivities, Coach Simmons and the team took formal pictures with the trophy.
