Basketball Recap: Kayln Ifland Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Ellis

After losing to Ellis the last time they met, Smith Center decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Smith Center Redmen had just enough and edged the Ellis Railroaders out 41-38. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Redmen.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smith Center to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayln Ifland, who went 8 for 14 en route to 18 points and six steals. Ifland is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Koelsch, who posted seven points and six steals.

Several Railroaders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Natalee North, who put up eight points and nine rebounds. Addison Kohl was another key player, going 5 of 11 on her way to 16 points.

Smith Center's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for Ellis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-5.

Smith Center has already played their next match, a 61-37 loss against Hoxie on the 24th. As for Ellis, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-47 defeat against Russell on the 23rd.
