Florida: Mitchell's Schuster Pitches No-Hit Three-Peat

By Rod Gipson Apr 20, 2009, 12:00am

Left-hander Patrick Schuster has no-hit three straight opponents, giving up just a run in the process while striking out 43 batters.

After throwing two no-hitters in an eight-day span in early April, New Port Richey Mitchell’s Patrick Schuster extended his unimaginable feat with a third consecutive no-no last week.

That’s three in a row if you’re counting.

Land O’ Lakes, New Port Richey River Ridge and Clearwater Central Catholic.

A senior, Schuster kept the three squads hitless, although Land O' Lakes did get three runners on base via walks and scored a run. Still, the 6-foot-3, 175-pound left-hander struck out 43 batters in those three games while improving to 7-0 on the season.

In 48 innings pitched this season, Schuster has 93 strikeouts and a 0.73 ERA.

He hasn’t been bad at the plate, either, posting a .424 batting average and 17 RBI.

The Mustangs are 19-3 overall and trail Tampa Alonso by one game for the top seed in the Class 6A, District 7 tournament race.

Mitchell has three regular season games before districts, including a matchup against Dade City Pasco later this week in which Schuster will take the mound.

Schuster has signed with the University of Florida.
