Baseball Recap: Deerfield Comes Up Short

Deerfield extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 9-12 in the process. They lost 9-3 to the Lake Country Lutheran Lightning. The Demons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lightning apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in June of 2023.

Deerfield saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Declan Pohlman, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Pohlman has launched this season. Stephen Bagley was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double.

As for Lake Country Lutheran, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The result was nothing new for Lake Country Lutheran, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Lake Country Lutheran's side, the team relied heavily on Christian Johann, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Johann a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jackson Menzel, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Looking ahead, Deerfield will square off against Williams Bay at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lake Country Lutheran, they will head out to face off against Luther Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Phoenix will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lightning surely won't give up without a fight.
