Softball Recap: Powell County Wins Going Away Against Morgan County

Powell County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Morgan County on Monday. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kylie Shick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Powell County let Madison Kincaid and Brooklyn Slone run wild. Kincaid got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, while Slone went 1-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Slone a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Rison, who got on base in three of her six plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Powell County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-12. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Morgan County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 15 of their last 16 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-24 record this season.

Powell County will head out to face off against Owsley County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Morgan County, they will be playing at home against Fairview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
