Evansville Reitz falls despite strong effort from Jaylan Mitchell

Recap: Evansville Reitz Panthers vs. Floyd Central Highlanders

The Evansville Reitz Panthers were the 58-54 winner over the Floyd Central Highlanders when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Evansville Reitz fell just short of Floyd Central by a score of 58-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

When it comes to explaining why Evansville Reitz lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Jaylan Mitchell. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Mitchell hasn't dropped below 15 points for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Evan Hayes, who scored ten points along with two steals.

Landon Reed was a one-man wrecking crew for Floyd Central as he scored 29 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reed has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Robertson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.

Evansville Reitz now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Floyd Central, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evansville Reitz and Evansville Memorial will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Evansville Memorial presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Evansville Reitz in Indiana (Evansville Memorial is ranked 44th, while Evansville Reitz is ranked 136th). As for Floyd Central, Floyd Central and Bedford North Lawrence will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
