Basketball Game Preview: Piscataquis Pirates vs. Penobscot Valley Howlers

Piscataquis is 0-10 against Penobscot Valley since February of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Piscataquis Pirates will challenge the Penobscot Valley Howlers at 6:00 p.m.

Piscataquis is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. The game between them and Dexter didn't end well, with Piscataquis falling 40-22. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 76th, while the Tigers are ranked 13th).

Meanwhile, Penobscot Valley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They beat Penquis Valley by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 99-21. The Howlers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 30 points or more this season.

Penobscot Valley's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 20.6 points per game. As for Piscataquis, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Piscataquis was dealt a bruising 76-22 loss at the hands of Penobscot Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2024. Can Piscataquis avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
