Softball Game Preview: Garfield Bulldogs vs. Bell Eagles

For the second straight game, Garfield will face off against Bell. The Bulldogs will host the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Garfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.

On Wednesday, Garfield made easy work of Bell and carried off a 16-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Nadia Carrillo and Clara Villalpando made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Carrillo struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Villalpando pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Carrillo has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Carrillo went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Villalpando went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three doubles, and four RBI. Those five hits gave Villalpando a new career-high.

In other batting news, Starlyne Vargas was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Valerie Valencia, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Garfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Garfield has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Bell, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
