Basketball Recap: Girard Takes a Loss

If Girard was riding high fresh off their 73-38 takedown of North East last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Girard Yellowjackets took a 50-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mercy Career & Technical on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Yellowjackets came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Mercy Career & Technical are ranked 269th).

Mercy Career & Technical was led to victory by Taji Stewart and Jeremiah Ford. Stewart posted 12 points, while Ford put up 12 points. Elmer Peralta was another key player, putting up seven points.

Girard's defeat dropped their record down to 16-5. As for Mercy Career & Technical, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-3.

Coming up, Girard will square off against Fairview at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mercy Career & Technical, they have already played their next matchup, a 50-44 victory against Girard College on the 6th.
