Softball Game Preview: Pacifica Mariners vs. Canyon Comanches

Pacifica and Canyon are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Mariners will be playing in front of their home fans against the Comanches at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Pacifica will be strutting in after a victory while Canyon will be coming in after a loss.

Pacifica was handed an eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Roosevelt 6-5.

Pacifica gave Raquel Pineda the start and clearly made the right call: she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Pineda has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Pacifica let Mattea Stern and Jenna Valladares run wild. Stern went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run, while Valladares went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Valladares a new career-high. McKenna Laukat also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Canyon unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against El Modena, falling 13-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 20, 2025, but that streak is no more.

Pacifica's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.

Pacifica skirted past Canyon 4-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Will the Mariners repeat their success, or do the Comanches have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
