Baseball Recap: Doral Academy Snags Tenth Victory in Last 11 Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against IMG Academy, Doral Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They never let the Downtown Doral Dolphins get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 contests by six runs or more this season.

Santiago Ortiz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Doral Academy got a massive performance out of Leandro Hernandez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Hernandez has posted since back in February. Gabriel Milano was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Doral Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Downtown Doral only posted an OBP of .077.

Doral Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Downtown Doral, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Doral Academy will take on IMG Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Downtown Doral, they will square off against Hialeah Gardens at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
