Preview: Lovett Lions vs. McDonough Warhawks

Two dominant guards in Kingston Whitty and Keenan Gray are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Lovett Lions on the road again on Tuesday and play against the McDonough Warhawks at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Lovett was able to grind out a solid victory over Mt. Zion, taking the game 77-67. Given Lovett's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Mt. Zion is ranked 399th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, McDonough waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They managed a 63-59 win over Pace Academy. Winning is a bit easier when you nail five more threes than your opponent, as McDonough did.

Zion Greene and Gray were among the main playmakers for McDonough as the former scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals and the latter scored 18 points along with eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathadeus Fambro, who scored 11 points.

Lovett has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. As for McDonough, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-2.

Lovett came up short against McDonough in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 75-66. Can Lovett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
