The Orono Riots will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Houlton Shiretowners at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Orono will be strutting in after a win while Houlton will be coming in after a loss.
Orono lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bucksport, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's match. The Riots blew past the Golden Bucks 11-2 on Friday. The game was the first time the Riots have beaten the Golden Bucks on their field since April 21, 2021.
Jack Brewer and Kason Bagley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brewer pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Bagley didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. At bat, Brewer went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Bagley went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Barrett, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Will Francis, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Orono kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bucksport only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Houlton came up short against Maine Central Institute on Friday, falling 10-3.
Houlton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Liam Fraser, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Orono now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Houlton, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Orono took their victory against Houlton when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Riots repeat their success, or do the Shiretowners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
