Football Preview: Fairview Yellowjackets vs. Hooker Bulldogs
The Fairview Yellowjackets will challenge the Hooker Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fairview comes in on 20 and Hooker on five.
Last Friday, Fairview blew past Crescent, posting a 56-26 victory at home. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won four contests by 28 points or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Hooker humbled Cashion with a 54-14 victory. Considering the Bulldogs have won four matches by more than 29 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hooker's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Justin Palacios, who gained 231 total yards and three touchdowns, and Kleat Martens, who threw for 265 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 passes. Palacios' longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Keilan Robinson was Martens' top target, picking up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Hooker didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Robinson. His receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 receiving yards dating back to last season. Aydan Woolridge was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks, making 12 total tackles, and defending two passes.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hooker was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 308 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 158 rushing yards in six consecutive matchups.
Fairview pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Hooker, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Fairview took their win against Hooker in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 34-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fairview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
