The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves will square off against the St. David Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, St. Augustine Catholic turned things around against Santa Rita on Monday. They blew past the Eagles 19-2. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Jonny Samaneigo was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI. Those RBI were his first of the season.

In other batting news, Alex Martinez and Sergio Cordova did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Cordova scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Cordova a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Gabriel Dominguez, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
St. Augustine Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Rita struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. David). They put the hurt on Baboquivari with a sharp 15-4 win on Wednesday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Owen Judd made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Cooper Merrill was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Luke Haymore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
St. David's win bumped their record up to 3-4-1. As for St. Augustine Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 2-8.
St. David's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: St. Augustine Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .440. It's a different story for St. David, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain St. Augustine Catholic's hitters?
