Baseball Game Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Reno Huskies

The Reed Raiders will challenge the Reno Huskies at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Reed is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Nevada Union 14-4 on Friday. The Raiders not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 29, 2024 (when they won 11-1).

Jakob Bartelheim spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Reed got a massive performance out of Luke Goddard, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave Goddard a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Moss, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Reed kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Reno faced Bishop Manogue in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Huskies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Miners.

Reno has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 20-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Reed, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-13.

Reed came out on top in a nail-biter against Reno when the teams last played on April 3rd, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
