Baseball Recap: Port Edwards Has No Trouble Against Wild Rose

Port Edwards got themselves on the board against Wild Rose on Monday, but Wild Rose never followed suit. They blew past the Wildcats 10-0. The Blackhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Max Michels was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Port Edwards' success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ayden Schumer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Port Edwards: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 5-6 otherwise. Ethan Boerner was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Port Edwards was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .531. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Port Edwards' win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-6. As for Wild Rose, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Port Edwards and Wild Rose will both be playing Pittsville the next time they take the field. The Blackhawks will head out to face the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Wildcats will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
