League recap: Deming tops Santa Teresa to extend winning streak

Deming extended the longest winning streak in 4A District 3 this week by beating Santa Teresa, 21-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.

Centennial and Chaparral played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Centennial eventually emerging with a 33-28 victory.

The Lobos' JOHN MARQUEZ and Christian Ramos have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. MARQUEZ has thrown for 1089 yards this season, while Ramos, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 51 catches for 637 yards. Ismail Garrett from Deming leads the league in rushing with 1176 yards.

The top two teams in 4A District 3 will face off this week when first place Deming takes on second place Centennial. Last week, Fernie Holguin's team bested the Desert Warriors, while the Hawks topped Chaparral.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Wildcats take on Centennial. Deming has allowed 149 points this season, while the Hawks have given up 210. The Wildcats allowed 14 points last week as they beat Santa Teresa.

Shae Vierra's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,247 from 11,366. The advance stemmed from a 21-14 victory over the Desert Warriors last week.
