Basketball Recap: George Smith and Jesse James Gonzales Secure Win for Robertson

It was a proper cat-fight when Robertson challenged Valencia on Monday. The Robertson Cardinals came out on top against the Valencia Jaguars by a score of 70-57. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.

Robertson was led to victory by Jesse James Gonzales and George Smith. Gonzales went 9 for 12 on his way to 27 points and five assists, while Smith posted 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. Those seven boards gave Smith a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Marr, who put up seven points.

Valencia lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Carin Bustillos, who had 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Porter, who posted 14 points.

The win got Robertson back to even at 2-2. As for Valencia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

Robertson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-54 victory against Taos on the 14th. As for Valencia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 41-30 win against Los Alamos on the 12th.
