Softball Game Preview: Point Loma Pointers vs. Brawley Wildcats

The Point Loma Pointers will be taking part in a tournament against the Brawley Wildcats at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Point Loma's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Brawley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Point Loma will bounce into Saturday's match after beating El Capitan, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. Point Loma blew past El Capitan 11-1 on Thursday. That looming 11-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Pointers yet this season.

Ella Poulin made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Poulin was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Siena Balistreri, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Bella Lopez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Point Loma was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Brawley lost 7-1 to Grossmont on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly six runs.

Point Loma pushed their record up to 7-2-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Brawley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Point Loma suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Brawley in their previous matchup back in February of 2022. Can Point Loma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
