Basketball Recap: Oconee County Skates Past Monroe Area with Ease

Oconee County had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 53-point drubbing they dealt Monroe Area on Friday. The Oconee County Warriors simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes 69-16. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Julie Azeltine was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 37 points and 11 rebounds. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 22 points. Another player making a difference was Eliza Oechsle, who went 5 for 11 en route to 10 points.

Oconee County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Oconee County is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points over those games. As for Monroe Area, they dropped their record down to 8-17 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home.

As of now, neither Oconee County nor Monroe Area have any future games scheduled.
