Baseball Recap: Santa Clara Extends Winning Streak to Five

Santa Clara won the last time they faced Monta Vista and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Santa Clara Bruins put the hurt on the Monta Vista Matadors with a sharp 11-4 win. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by six runs or more this season.

Jaxton Chao made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Chao was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Andrew Traffas and John Kepner did most of the damage at the plate: Traffas scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Kepner went 2-for-3 with two triples and two RBI. That's the most runs Traffas has posted since back in April of 2024. Connor Houle also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monta Vista, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-1.

Looking ahead, Santa Clara will challenge MacDonald at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. MacDonald has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something Santa Clara will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Monta Vista, they will head out on the road to square off against Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
