Basketball Recap: Calvary Day School Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Calvary Day School took on Asheville Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Calvary Day School Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 71-70 to the Asheville Christian Academy Lions. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Lions are ranked 34th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Calvert, who posted 26 points. Calvert's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Cassada, who scored 19 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds.

Calvary Day School moved to 10-7 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Calvary Day School has already played their next game, a 65-55 defeat against Wesleyan Christian Academy on the 9th. As for Asheville Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 85-34 loss against Christ School on the 9th.
