Basketball Recap: Zay Burton Key Part of a Team Effort in Lancers Win

It's playoff time, and Cambridge Christian had no trouble coming through when it counted. They strolled past the Foundation Christian Academy Panthers with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 67-52. 67 seems to be a good number for the Lancers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Cambridge Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zay Burton led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Burton is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last eight games he's played. Ian Jansen was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Cambridge Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Foundation Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Caleb Hagan, who posted 18 points and three steals. Riley Hiestand also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Cambridge Christian is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Foundation Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-13.

Cambridge Christian will face off against Brandon Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge Christian has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 196 points over their last three contests. Foundation Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
