Softball Recap: Hermleigh Takes Down Baird in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Hermleigh had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the Baird Bears get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Friday. The Cardinals are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 20 straight.

Peyton Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hallie Ellerbe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hailey Minton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Hermleigh was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matchups.

Hermleigh's win bumped their record up to 20-1. As for Baird, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Looking ahead, Hermleigh will face off against Eula on Saturday. The Cardinals will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. Baird does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
