Preview: Menomonie Mustangs vs. New Richmond Tigers
The Menomonie Mustangs will take on the New Richmond Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Menomonie had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down River Falls 28-14. Menomonie pushed the score to 35-7 by the end of the third, a deficit River Falls cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, New Richmond didn't have too much trouble with Marshfield at home on Friday as they won 39-22. The victory was just what New Richmond needed coming off of a 35-13 defeat in their prior match.
Miles Burke was on fire: he rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per carry. Burke really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run. Kyle Germain made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Menomonie's win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.3 points per game. As for New Richmond, their win bumped their record up to 9-1.
Menomonie was taken down by New Richmond 35-7 in their previous meeting back in September. Can Menomonie avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
