Recap: Cannon Cougars vs. Providence Day Chargers
The Cannon Cougars came tearing into Tuesday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 50-45 victory over Providence Day. That's another feather in the cap for Cannon, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Maya Mccorkle was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Kierra Morrow was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Providence Day still got an impressive performance from Jaida Mcclure, who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. It was the first time this season that Mcclure pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Fyans, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Cannon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. As for Providence Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cannon will take on Charlotte Latin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Cannon is coming into the contest with four straight wins on the road, meaning Charlotte Latin will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Providence Day, they will take on Charlotte Country Day School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Charlotte Country Day School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Friday.
