Preview: Mendota Aztecs vs. Taft Wildcats

The Mendota Aztecs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Taft Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mendota will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mendota had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Foothill 42-7 at home. With Mendota ahead 28-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Mendota had a senior duo take command as Donnie Munoz rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry and Bernardo Camacho threw for 198 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes.

Meanwhile, even though Rosamond scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Taft still came out on top. Taft really took it to Rosamond for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-34 win at home.

Cameron Cash was a one-man wrecking crew for Taft as he rushed for 215 yards and five touchdowns on only 14 carries. Cash was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Another player making a difference was Cash Clark, who picked up 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 5-6.
