Volleyball Recap: Polk County Wolverines vs. Highland Tech Rams

Polk County had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Highland Tech Rams with a sharp 3-0 win on Tuesday. The Wolverines have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Rams, too.

Polk County's got stronger as the match went on, holding Highland Tech to fewer and fewer points set over set. The final score came out to 37-35, 26-24, 25-16.

Sophia Overholt paced Polk County's offense, picking up 15 kills. Overholt got some help from Charley Dusenbury and her 40 assists. Morgan Yoder controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Highland Tech's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lilly Coletta, who had nine digs and 15 assists, and Madie Chapman, who had ten digs, six kills, and two aces. Coletta has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more assists the last three times she's played.

Polk County is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. As for Highland Tech, their loss ended a 12-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 26-2.

Polk County will venture away from home to take on Cherokee at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cherokee is on a 15-game streak of home wins, Polk County a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
