El Modena has gone a perfect 5-0 against Laguna Beach recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Vanguards will square off against the Breakers at 6:30 p.m. El Modena's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Laguna Beach's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
El Modena is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Paul just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Swordsmen by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vanguards have suffered since February 21st.
Dillan Ruvalcaba was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, El Modena saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Honikel, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Laguna Beach entered their tilt with La Mirada on Saturday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Matadores, sneaking past 3-1.
Branson Wade looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lincoln Adams, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.
El Modena's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Laguna Beach, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. El Modena has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Laguna Beach struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
El Modena got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 against Laguna Beach by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vanguards since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
