Wellington dropped down to 22-5-1 on Saturday, ending the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the University Bulldogs. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in September of 2023.
Kensley Story was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. London Morgan was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
As for University, the win (which was their 16th in a row) raised their record to 26-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.
On University's side, Sydney Goetzel and Jasi Cole were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Goetzel struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Cole tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. At the plate, Goetzel went 3-for-4 with one double, while Cole went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bergen Duarte was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Wellington does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for University, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 5-4 win against Eaton on the 25th.
