Baseball Recap: Moapa Valley Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Moapa Valley won the last time they faced Mater Academy East Las Vegas and things went their way on Monday too. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Knights. Considering the Pirates have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Logan Schouten and Lachlan Stephenson made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Schouten tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Stephenson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two hits in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Schouten got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double, while Stephenson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Schouten a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tyson Pettingill was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Kohntopp, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

Moapa Valley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moapa Valley will take on Canyon Springs at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they will face off against Mojave at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rattlers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.23 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of.
