Basketball Game Preview: Llano Yellowjackets vs. Mumford Mustangs

The Llano Yellowjackets and the Mumford Mustangs will round out the year against one another at at 11:10 a.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Llano has struggled recently with 19 losses in a row, while Mumford will arrive with four straight wins.

Llano is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Randolph on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Llano might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Randolph an easy 56-34 victory. While losing is never fun, the Yellowjackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1515th, while the Ro-Hawks are ranked 446th).

Llano's defeat came about despite a quality game from Carl Schutte, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Konrad Zwicke, who put up six points.

Meanwhile, everything went Mumford's way against Bremond on Friday as Mumford made off with a 58-38 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mumford has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Llano, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.

Llano came up short against Mumford in their previous meeting back in December of 2015, falling 62-50. Can Llano avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
