Basketball Recap: Benson Takes a Loss

Benson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost to the Sahuarita Mustangs on the road by a 79-64 margin. The Bobcats were probably out for revenge after losing 55-49 to them when the teams met back in December of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Benson still got an impressive performance from Domonik Villa, who went 7 for 16 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Villa has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Chapman, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Benson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Sahuarita's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thomas Naylor, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten assists. Ruben Villalba was another key player, going 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points.

Benson's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Sahuarita, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.

Benson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 72-50 defeat against Douglas on the 12th. As for Sahuarita, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-75 win against Bisbee on the 12th.
