Basketball Recap: Churubusco Eagles vs. Northfield Norsemen

Churubusco was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 57-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northfield Norsemen. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 49-38 to them when the teams met, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Churubusco still got an impressive performance from Patty Wiggs, who posted 12 points and six steals. Wiggs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Sinclair, who had 14 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Churubusco was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Northfield got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Laney Haupert out in front who made all 6 shots she took for 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Haupert a new career-high in blocks (two). Callie Hoffman was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Churubusco's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Northfield, they pushed their record up to 14-8 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Churubusco will face off against Prairie Heights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Churubusco is facing Prairie Heights at the right time seeing as Prairie Heights is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Northfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 38-34 loss against Southwood on the 5th.
