Avella hasn't had much luck against West Greene recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will welcome the Pioneers at 4:00 p.m.
Avella is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They lost 9-3 to Mapletown.
Haleigh Rush made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ginny Smith, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West Greene). They put the hurt on Bethlehem Center with a sharp 21-6 win on Tuesday. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Madelyn Roberts was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Tharp, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
West Greene was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethlehem Center only posted a batting average of .318.
The victory made it two in a row for West Greene and bumps their season record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Avella, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Avella has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. However, it's not like West Greene struggles in that department as they've averaged .461. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Avella might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from West Greene in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
